Paul Wesley was married in April 2011 in a private ceremony with the actress Torrey DeVitto from which he separated in May 2013. The couple met and started dating in 2007, when they performed together in the movie Killer Movie

 After two years of marriage, it was reported that the couple had filed for divorce. The publicist Mona Loring said in a statement that the couple "had decided to separate amicably" and that "they would continue to be good friends." The People.com site was the first to report the break. The divorce was finalized in December 2013.
Wesley lived in Atlanta, Georgina during the filming of The Vampire Diaries and the rest of the time with his then wife Torrey DeVitto in Los Angeles, California. He sold his Los Angeles residence after his divorce at the end of 2013.
